TroFilms launches two new structured films
Georgensgmünd, September 15, 2020 – TroFilms GmbH, a medium-sized and globally operating specialist for high-quality special laminating films for the graphics and laminating industry, based in Georgensgmünd in Germany, is launching two new structured films with immediate effect.
The two films, which are marketed under the brand names TroLEATHER and TroWOOD, are biaxially oriented polypropylene films, which are available in two natural-looking surfaces by partially applying acrylic lacquer. Both films are also available both as wet and thermal lamination films.
Customers, dealers and business partners of TroFilms GmbH could get a first impression of the high quality of the new films shortly before Christmas 2019. Here, the TroLEATHER THERMAL was used in the production of the company's Christmas card produced with DIGITAL METAL® and digital printing.
Sample sheets with the new structured films TroLEATHER (picture above) and TroWOOD (picture below).
TroFilms TroLEATHER WET is a biaxially oriented polypropylene film with a leather texture, partially coated with acrylic varnish. The film has a thickness of 25 μm (± 5%) and is used for laminating a wide range of materials.
It is suitable for laminating with all commercially available laminating adhesives (dispersions, solvent-free, solvent-based).
Properties of the film
- natural leather structure
- scratch-resistant
- good tear resistance
- odourless
- better separability
- better flatness
- adhesive saving (back of the film without structure)
- gluing, overprinting and hot foil stamping are possible in principle, but the structure on the outside can make these processes more difficult.
TroFilms TroLEATHER THERMAL is a biaxially oriented polypropylene film with a leather texture, partially coated with acrylic lacquer and backed with an EVA hotmelt. This needs time to be able to bond optimally. The duration of the bonding process depends on the base material and should be checked by means of pre-tests before starting further work steps.
With a thickness of 35 μm (± 5 %), it is used in the film lamination of a wide variety of materials.
The optimum lamination temperature of the calender is between 100 °C and 115 °C

TroFilms TroWOOD WET is a biaxially oriented polypropylene film with partially applied acrylic varnish in a wood structure, with a thickness of 30 μm (± 5%), which is used for laminating a wide range of materials.
It is suitable for laminating with all commercial laminating adhesives (dispersions, solvent-free, solvent-based).

With a thickness of 38 μm (± 5 %), it is used in the film lamination of a wide variety of materials.
The optimum lamination temperature of the calender is between 100 °C and 115 °C.

Ralf Troyer, managing director of TroFilms GmbH, comments on the new films: "Following the wishes of our customers, we have developed these two new design films and brought them to market maturity. The biggest challenge here was, of course, to reproduce the two underlying natural structures as realistically as possible and yet without a visible repeat. We have succeeded in doing this and both films also bring with them the excellent processing qualities and finishing options that are well-known for our films. We are already very excited to see what great applications the market will find for these two new films from our now extensive product range."
